The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in existance for more than 50 years thanks to the sacrifice of the founder, Dr. Dian Fossey, who left her mark on the world in her heroic struggle to protect the Gorillas of the Virunga Mountains.
Today, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund focuses its activities on:
Protection with rangers of more than 1,000 sq km of their habitats Daily monitoring and surveillance of more than 115 mountain Gorillas and 150 Grauer's Gorillas. World leaders in scientific researching and divulgation. Education and training of conservationists. Development of local communities for Gorilla’s protection.
The Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education (GRACE) Center in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is the world's only sanctuary for critically endangered Grauer's gorillas.
To help save the 3,800 Grauer's gorillas that remain, GRACE:
Cares for young gorillas orphaned by poaching - Rehabilitates gorillas for reintroduction back into the wild - Provides local education to promote gorilla conservation - Empowers Congolese youth and communities to take conservation action.
